I kind of love how one of the first places this meme has gone is to famous painings. Sticking Lt. Pike in Seurat’s “Sunday Afternoon at the Grande Jatte” was genius, for example. This is almost better, though: brutality so vile as to defy God at the moment of creation. Bring Man into being? That’s a threat to public safety!

I’m loving these memes in general. The best part about them is that they take Lt. Pike from the world of reality, as a corporeal human being, and place him inside the world of images, rendering him as two-dimensional and empty as we now all regard him. He’ll continue on with his life until one day he looks down and realizes that he’s just a cartoon, utterly deprived of the very humanity he took away from others. Call it mere poetic justice if you will, but it’s a fascinating example of how images really can make a difference in the world, acting on reality and changing it.
